About AhelioTech

Two Ohio companies. One team that owns the whole stack.

For most Columbus businesses, technology comes from a pile of separate vendors. One company for IT. Another for phones. A third for internet. AhelioTech was built to end that arrangement.

Columbus Cincinnati

We are the product of two Columbus companies with deep roots in this market. AhelioTech, founded in 2006, spent nearly two decades building a managed IT and cybersecurity practice on referrals and renewals. ValTech Communications, founded in 2003, spent that same stretch building and running its own telecom network as a licensed Ohio carrier. In July 2025, the two came together under one brand.

The result is a single company that owns your voice, your data, and your security on infrastructure we run ourselves.

One number. One bill. One team that already knew about the problem before you called.

Why we came together

AhelioTech and ValTech had already shared ownership since 2018, when Eric Hullibarger and Adam Gerardi purchased ValTech and brought its telecom network under the same roof as AhelioTech's IT business. For years the two operated side by side, serving many of the same clients from the same city.

Merging into one brand in July 2025 formalized what was already true in practice. Rather than launch a new name, we built on the AhelioTech identity clients already knew and trusted, and extended it to cover the SIP trunking, hosted PBX, and cloud voice services ValTech had spent two decades developing.

For customers, the combination closes the gap where most technology problems actually live. When your phone system, your internet circuit, and your network all answer to one team, there is nowhere for a problem to hide and no one left to point a finger at the other guy. You get IT expertise and carrier-grade voice and connectivity from the same people, running on the same infrastructure.

Managed IT built to earn the next month

Eric Hullibarger founded AhelioTech in Columbus in October 2006 with a straightforward pitch. Outsourced IT support should be easy to say yes to. Instead of locking businesses into long contracts, he built the company so clients stay because the service earns it every month, not because a contract requires it.

That model became the growth engine. A one-person operation grew into a team of 40-plus delivering managed IT, cybersecurity, and consulting across the region, with most new business coming from referrals and renewals rather than outbound sales. Clients who experienced fewer fires, because proactive monitoring caught problems before they caused downtime, became the best source of new clients.

Eric holds a B.S. in Management and Communications from DeVry University, along with Security+, Network+, CIW, and Microsoft Certified Professional certifications. What clients tend to remember, though, is simpler: straight answers about what their business actually needs, delivered without jargon.

ValTech Communications · founded 2003

A real phone company, not a startup

ValTech Communications started in Columbus in 2003 on a simple premise. Local businesses deserved telecom service that was affordable and reliable, backed by real support, something the large carriers were not set up to deliver. Its name said it plainly: value delivered through the intersection of low prices and strong service.

ValTech began as a traditional phone provider and grew into a Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC), a registered utility with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO). It became the first CLEC in Ohio to secure a state contract for telecommunications and internet services, extending real savings to public-sector Cooperative Purchasing Members. The tagline captured the spirit: "Big City Technology Supported by Friendly, Small Town Service."

As a licensed carrier, ValTech built and ran its own softswitch-based network, the core switching infrastructure that let it originate and terminate calls on its own rather than reselling another carrier's capacity. That network let ValTech interconnect with other carriers, manage its own call routing, and offer PRI and T1 circuits, local and long-distance lines, and toll-free numbers at prices that undercut the incumbents.

When the market shifted toward VoIP, ValTech adapted rather than starting over. For businesses with a PBX, it offered SIP Trunking to converge voice and data onto one connection and retire legacy phone lines. For businesses without one, a Digital Cross Connect bridged existing equipment to ValTech's network while the transport moved to IP. Its Hosted IP PBX let smaller businesses skip on-premise hardware entirely and still get enterprise-grade features like conferencing.

“We’re a competitive local exchange carrier. We’re a registered utility with the PUCO, the Public Utility Commission of Ohio. It’s not like we’re some fly-by-the-night VoIP company that started out of somebody’s garage. We had… we’re a regulated entity and we got pushed into the VoIP market because that’s where the product went. And we adapted. We built our own infrastructure. We built our own soft switches, and we are our own phone company. We started out as traditional POTS, a reseller, and built out to our own infrastructure and became a true VoIP carrier in our own right.”

Where we are today

Today AhelioTech is one company covering the full stack: managed IT, cybersecurity, business voice and VoIP, and internet and fiber, all delivered by a team that has served Central Ohio for two decades.

Because we are our own ISP and our own voice carrier, your systems no longer sit with three companies that blame each other when something breaks. The problem shows up in our monitoring before you call, because we own the pipe. When a line goes down, there is no carrier to chase and no firewall vendor to route around. We see the port. We do not replace the building.

That is the real payoff of two companies becoming one. IT and telecom expertise that used to require separate vendors now comes from a single accountable partner, on infrastructure we control end to end. One number. One bill. One call that gets answered.

The difference between managed IT and the vendor who waits

The industry rebranded break-fix as "managed services" without changing the behavior.

The vendor who waits

Something breaks, they show up, they bill you. That is reactive care with monitoring software dressed on top. Your provider only earns its keep after you have already lost the morning.

Real management

We watch your network around the clock and act before small faults become outages. Our workload goes up when we prevent problems, not when your people sit waiting.

What to look for when choosing a managed IT provider

Ask three questions before you sign anything.

Do they own the full stack?

Or will you referee between an IT company, a phone company, and an internet provider? One team means one number and one bill.

Do they have real security depth?

Or do they sell a product they cannot deploy? Look for named credentials, not marketing language. Start with our cybersecurity services as the benchmark.

Do they lock you into a long contract?

A confident IT company earns your renewal every month. It does not trap you for a year.

If a provider cannot answer these plainly, keep looking.

No 12-month lock-in

We do not trap you in a long contract to keep your business. Every named Columbus competitor requires a 12-month minimum. We work on Net 30 terms.

Frequently asked questions

ValTech merged into AhelioTech in July 2025. The two companies had shared ownership since 2018 and served many of the same Columbus clients. Nothing about ValTech's carrier operation went away. Its licensed network, softswitches, and voice services now sit inside AhelioTech, alongside managed IT and cybersecurity.

We own the full stack. Your voice, data, and security run on infrastructure we monitor directly, so no vendor can point fingers. We also staff three CISSPs, hold AT&T Solution Provider status, and work on Net 30 terms.

Yes. We are based in Central Ohio and support clients across Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and beyond. For multi-location companies, we extend past state lines when the relationship warrants it.

Look for full-stack ownership, named security credentials, and contract terms that do not lock you in. If a provider cannot explain these plainly in one conversation, keep looking.

We work on Net 30 terms, not 12-month minimums. You stay because the service is good, not because a contract forces you to.

Often we act before you call, because our monitoring flags the problem first. When you do reach out, you get a local team that already knows your setup, not a distant ticket queue.
